BALMA S.A. is a company with long tradition. The beginnings of the company date back to 1978 when an electric installation company was set up. Two years later the company started producing electric equipment. Although the first two years were not directly connected with office furniture, the experience gained then turned out to be very valuable and brought effects in the years to come.

The year 1988 was definitely crucial in the history of the Factory. It was then when the production of computer desks started. The success of this venture greatly influenced the further development of the company. The crown of all the efforts in the field of office furniture was Gold Medal of International Poznań Fair awarded in 1992.

These successes encouraged the management to look for a new base for the rapidly developing company. As a result, in 1993 a building plot designated for new factory buildings was purchased in Tarnowo Podgórne. In 1996 the Factory was opened with celebration and BALMA was officially welcomed to Tarnowo Podgórne.

Tarnowo Podgórne commune is now among the richest communes in Poland, mainly because of successful enterprise and numerous investments. It is worth mentioning, however, that among many companies which decided to locate their investments in Tarnowo Podgórne, BALMA S.A. Furniture Company is the only originally Polish business whose level of investments and organisation is equal to the one of big foreign investors. Thanks to this we can successfully create a positive image of Polish entrepreneurs and workers. It should be mentioned here that on the 1st of February 1999 the company changed its legal status from individual person to join-stock company.

This short historical note well illustrates the process of  rapid development of the company which evolved from small works into a large and modern factory, employing today as many as 250 people.
